01 Eschatology 2 – teaching on End-times
Because my first 01 Eschatology – teaching of End-times has become extremely long I have added a second 01 Eschatology 2 – teaching End-times.
There is considerable material on this subject. How practical and profitable it is I am not absolutely sure. Regardless of when the Lord returns or when the Rapture occurs there is one thing sure and important. We should be serving the Lord faithfully every day.
Obviously the fact of the Lord’s coming should be a motivation to be more faithful, but it should not be thought of as “eat drink and be merry because tomorrow the Lord will come!”
Personally, I believe that the Lord’s return is not that far off. The Rapture of the Church will be immediately prior to God pouring His wrath out on unbelieving mankind which I believe will occur in the Seventh Seal of Revelation. I believe that true Christians will go through part of Daniel’s Seventieth Week. Revelation 6 clearly gives the sign of the coming wrath of God. This time of God’s wrath is commonly called “The Day of The LORD” in the O.T.
Marven Rosenthal in his book The Prewrath Rapture of The Church clearly explains the correct biblical terminology for the seven years. He states that the seven years should not be called “the Tribulation” because that is not the Scriptural terminology for that period. He, like I, believe that it should be called Daniel’s Seventieth Week. The first half (42 months) should be called the “beginnings of sorrows”. “All these are the beginning of sorrows.” Matt 24:8 (KJV)
The second forty-two months according to Scripture is the Great Tribulation.
“For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.” Matt 24:21-22 (KJV)
This is the same period that is mentioned in Daniel 12:1
And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. Dan 12:1 (KJV)
This second forty-two months will usher in the Anti-christ. The first 42 months will be a time of man’s wrath. All of the first four Seals are the result of man’s wrath.
The second forty-two months will be man’s, Anti-christ’s, and Satan’s wrath. God will shorten this second forty-two months for the Elect’s sake.
And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened. Matt 24:22 (KJV)
The fifth Seal is clearly a time of persecution and martyrdom brought on by the Anti-Christ. In the Sixth Seal we see the Sign of the Coming of the Son of Man.
Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. Matt 24:29-31 (KJV)
“After the tribulation of those days” (the great tribulation) the Sign of the coming of the Son of Man and the Sign of God’s coming wrath will appear.
Notice all the uses of the Day of the LORD in the Scripture:
The Day of the LORD
Isaiah 2:12 For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:
Isaiah 13:6 Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
Isaiah 13:9 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
Jer 46:10 For this is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his adversaries: and the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiate and made drunk with their blood: for the Lord GOD of hosts hath a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.
Ezekiel 13:5 Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of the LORD.
Ezekiel 30:3 For the day is near, even the day of the LORD is near, a cloudy day; it shall be the time of the heathen.
Joel 1:15 Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.
Joel 2:1 Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand;
Joel 2:11 And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?
Joel 2:31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.
Joel 3:14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.
Amos 5:18 Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light.
Amos 5:20 Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?
Obadiah 1:15 For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head.
Zeph 1:7 Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord GOD: for the day of the LORD is at hand: for the LORD hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath bid his guests.
Zeph 1:14 The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly.
Zech 14:1 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.
Malachi 4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:
Acts 2:20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:
1 Cor 5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
2 Cor 1:14 As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also are ours in the day of the Lord Jesus.
1 Thes 5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
There might be one or two of these references that do not refer to the Day of the LORD but almost all do.
The Sixth Seal is God’s warning that the Day of the LORD is about to occur. At the time I took a course on Premillennialism at Trinity Seminary, Paul Feinberg stated a very significant thing which he also include in the book Pre-Mid-Post Tribulation. At that time there were only three interpretations on the timing of the Rapture. Since that time there is a fourth interpretation, Prewrath. Dr. Feinberg made that statement that all three interpretations of the Rapture question believed that God would not pour His wrath out on His children. Below is the Scripture verse that all views hold that God will not pour His wrath on His children. The Prewrath interpretation also holds this position.
“For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.” 1 Thess 5:9-10 (KJV)
The big question is “When does the wrath of God begin?”
Well it appears that the Scripture answers that question. In Rev. 6:16-17 it clearly states when the wrath of God will come.
“And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?” Rev 6:16-17 (KJV)
The wrath of God will be poured out upon the wicked and unbelieving world in the Seventh Seal which contain the Seven Trumpets and the Seventh Trumpet contain the Seven Bowel judgments.
Have you ever noticed that the first Resurrection and the Rapture occur at the same time in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18?
“…they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.” Rev 20:4 (KJV)
This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years. Rev 20:5-6 (KJV)
If you truly want to get a handle on the timing of the Rapture you should read Marven Rosenthal’s book The Prewrath Rapture of the Church or Robert Van Kampen’s book The Sign. Start in the 8th chapter of Rosenthal’s book.
