03 Organize for Efficiency

Dear Blog Friends,

My list of articles are not organized well alphabetically so I will be reorganizing them in the near future.  Also, when I will add articles it will necessitate reorganization.  So be patient with me.

(Since the time this article was written I have organized the pages of my articles by connecting them together under various primary articles.   So you may wish to ignore that listing I have below.  The organization of these articles may come later.)

Below is a list of how we have organized our Blog site.

New Posts are put on the Post pages.   At present, I have mostly articles that related to receiving eternal salvation.  Our desire is the same as God’s  “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.  2 Peter 3:9 (KJV)

Our desire is that every person benefit for the work of Jesus Christ when he paid for all sin.   When Jesus died on the cross he completely died and paid for all sin. When he died on the cross his last words were “It is finished”.   That truly meant just what he said, “All sin was atoned for”.

30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.  John 19:30 (KJV)

He even paid for the sin of those who will not receive him and those who will perish.  The issue now is not sin, but the reception of the remedy.   No one perishes simply because of their sin.   They perish because they refuse the remedy.  Some Christians will not agree with me, but that is OK.  It is not the amount of sin a person has committed that is the ultimate issue, but whether they are willing to receive the remedy.  New life in Jesus Christ is offered to all.  We believe in unlimited atonement, but not in universal salvation – universalism.   This is like having a terminal disease and going to a doctor that has the cure.  If you refuse the cure of the doctor you will die.  If you receive the remedy you will live.  However, ultimately the choice is yours.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.  John 3:17-18 (KJV)

What Must I Do To Be Saved – John R. Rice

All of Grace – Charles H. Spurgeon

We believe that the little booklet What Must I Do To Be Saved?  is the clearly most comprehensive tract that has ever been published.   When I was about ten years old I read this booklet and was moved by the Holy Spirit.  However, I did not became a clear believer until the age of 19 years old.  At various intervals in my life I have re-read the booklet and still found it enlightening and encouraging to me.

The book All of Grace by Charles Spurgeon was picked from all the Christian books in the world to be the first Christian paper back book.  If I remember correctly it was by Moody Colportage.  In order to know how to spell “Colportage” I just looked it up on the internet and guess what, All of Grace by Spurgeon was the first one of their list.

We have five articles on the book of Hebrews.  The book of Hebrews has been a challenge for years.   Most people who believe that a Christian can lose his/her salvation resort to the book of Hebrews to prove this belief.   Since my conversion at age 19 I have search for material to explain the problem passages in the book of Hebrews.   My first encounter with a truly good explanation was the book of Hebrews by Dr. M.R. Dehaan who I greatly admired.  During my early years as a new believer I read almost every booklet that Radio Bible Class put out.  He was such a clear and lucid expositor of God’s Word.  M.R. Dehaan preached a  series of messages on Hebrews during the 1950s  which I was able to hear because I was not yet a Christian.  This series became a book, Studies in Hebrews.

From then on I continued to look for material in the same vein of interpretation.  Then when attending Bible Memory Association (BMA) camp in Michigan, I learned from one of the speakers, a teacher from Multnomah School of the Bible about an article in Bibliotheca Sacra by a man named  J. B. Rowell.  When I returned to Chicago, I went down to Moody Bible Institute library and found this article and photo copied it.   Since that time I have kept copies of it to give to those who are confused about Hebrews.

Then when reading John Constable’s PDF on Hebrews (approximately 2007) I learned that he took the same view.  But the great find was that he had many footnotes of authors that took the same view.  I then went down to Moody Bible Institute library and located all of these books or articles.   I checked out the books and photo copied the articles.  Most of the articles were from the famous Bibliotheca Sacra volumes.   Bibliotheca Sacra is the oldest theological journal in the world.  It is full of a wealth of theological information.   Moody has the complete set.  At some time in past history, Dallas Theological Seminary purchases the rights and volumes of this Theological Journal and now continue to published excellent biblical works.

At some point, I heard the great J. Vernon McGee preach on the problem passages Hebrews 6:4-12.  He took the same “Not loss of salvation, but loss of reward”.   I have almost all of his Thru the Bible series booklets and the audio of his preaching on this problem passage.

Most of these authors, I have posted on our Blog site in a bibliography type article.

Some of the articles I have not posted on the site because when I went to scan them, they had actually Greek in them, not transliterated Greek.   I was unable to scan them in MS Word and insert the Greek lettering in them so I scanned them with a graphic scan and then inserted the graphic scans into MS Word.   This made for a large bulky file, but I was able to print them anyway.  However, I have not been able to effectively put them on the internet because of their size etc.  I will attempt to put them up individually as single PDF files.

We have four articles post in the pages section about Hebrews.

01 Hebrews – Challenge

02 Bibliography: Hebrews – Loss of Rewards!

03 Interpreting Hebrews: Beginning with the Readers

04 Are Persons In Hebrews 6:4-6 Christians?

05 Hebrews 6 – An Age-Long Battle Ground!

I have shortened some of the titles so they do not take so much space in the section that mention them.  I have also attempted to categorize and put together those that have a common theme.

Why am I so concerned about Eternal Security.  Well I believe that unless a person truly knows he is eternally secure, he may not be effective in his Christian life and service.  This was my case.

I use an analogy to explain this.

Say a person is drowning in the Ocean.    If someone throws him a strong life preserver, he will then feel reasonable secure.  Before that time he would be very insecure.   Once he is secure, he may even take action to attempt to save others.  However, if he does not feel secure he will only be concerned for his own welfare.  Once he truly believes he is secure he is set free psychological to truly serve other.  Eternal Security does not need to be taught in an antinomian way.

Anyone that believes that the teaching of Eternal Security allows them to live anyway they might want, does not truly understand the meaning of grace.  Also there are two major safeguards to this teaching.   At some point I plan to create an article about these two things:  1) the carrot, and 2) the stick.

These two are much like we use with our children.  We reward them when they are good, and we punish them when rewards do not work.  When a man brings up the argument against Eternal Security, I just ask him, “Do you have children?”  If he states, Yes!  I ask him, “ Do you let your children run up and down the block doing anything they want?”  To which the response is usuallly an emphatic “NO, Way!!”   Then I ask him, “Do you truly believe that you are a better Father than God?”  To which he usually amazingly states “NO”.   He had not thought of it that way, but he should.  God is indeed our Father and HE does not allow his children to do just what they want to do.

The Bible indeed does teach that God is a rewarder (Heb. 11:6) of those who diligently seek him.   He is a rewarder of all good works.  Just as we reward our children so God is pleased to reward us both in this life and more importantly in the life to come.  Holy Scripture clearly makes a distinction between the conditions for Eternal Life and Rewards.  Eternal life is absolutely free (Eph. 2:8,9) but Rewards are to be earned by diligent and faithful service for our amazing Lord (I Cor. 3:10-15).

11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; 13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. 14 If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.   1 Cor 3:11-15 (KJV)

The author of Hebrews deals with the concept of the “Stick” in Hebrews 12.  There are many other places in Holy Scripture that teach this concept.   Sometimes If a rebellious, sinning believer does not respond to God’s stick or rod, God will take the extreme measure of completely removing him from this world by physical death.  Many Bible scholars call this the “sin unto death”.  That person does not loss their eternal salvation, but may indeed loss part or all of their rewards.  Look at the following passages of Scripture (read also the context):

4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, 5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

1 Cor 5:4-5 (KJV)

29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. 30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. 31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. 32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.   1 Cor 11:29-32 (KJV)

Those at Corinth were dishonoring the “Lord’s body” by their treatment of the poor.  The Lord’s supper is to celebrate the unity of all believers.  At this time many of the believers were slaves and could not come until late in the evening once their masters had let them go.  The rich provided the food and wine and were free to come early.  However, what had happened was that the rich became impatient at the delay of the poor and started early and had eaten all the food and drunk all the wine.   This was a total disgrace because they were shaming the poor.  By the time the poor arrived all food had been eaten and all wine had been drunk.  This was a total disgrace to the concept of the Lord’s body  which was to be a celebration of the true unity we have in Jesus Christ.

They had seriously dishonored the “Lord’s Body”, his poor believers.   They truly did not discern the concept of  the Lord’s body.   Also note that the word “sleep” does not refer to sleep, but to Christian death.  Just as a disobedient child in the grocery store is warned “I’ll have to take you home if you cannot behave!” so God also warns the same and does indeed act sometimes.

My bibliography includes a major book by Dr. Joseph Dillow, Reign of the Servant Kings, which deals with all aspects of these two issues of the carrot and the stick from an aspect of the total Scripture record.  It is a massive book so I only included the best article on our Blog Site –  Reign of the Servant Kings.   This is a Review and Summary of the book Reign of the Servant Kings which is over 600 pages.  Thus this Review and summary is a little over 200 pages.
