Dear friends, Please check out William Fay’s website. He has an excellent presentation called “Sharing Jesus without Fear”. We believe that you will certainly benefit with his way of presenting the “Good News” of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Even though I have been evangelizing for 50 plus years and should have known the meaning of the word “Evangelist” it took me hearing William Fay to be reminded that Scripture explains what an Evangelist does.
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Eph 4:11-12 (KJV)
Not all of the foundational gifts from the early church exit today. I do not believe that either Apostles or Prophets exist today. I believe these were foundational gift that God gave the early church. Most of the 12 Apostles had all of the gifts. Likewise most authored Holy Scripture. The Apostles and Prophets were the foundation of the Church.
20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophet, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; 21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: 22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. Eph 2:20-22 (KJV)
Also, it should be noted that all Holy Scripture was written by Jewish men with the exception of Luke and Acts who was probably a Gentile. We do not know who wrote the book of Job. Job was prior to the Mosaic Covenant. Also, all true prophets are and will be Jewish.
1 What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? 2 Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God. Romans 3:1-2 (KJV)
There are no Gentile Apostles or Prophets today as far as I know. Enoch, Abraham etc. who were prior to the Mosaic Covenant could be considered Gentile prophets. Abraham was not Jewish, but the first Hebrew. Genesis 12:1-3
We still have the gifts of evangelists, Pastors and teachers.
