02 Why Eschatology Matters

Christianity is an Eschatological Worldview

The Christian is clearly interested in end-times.  In fact, a major portion of the Holy Scriptures are dedicated to Prophecy.  To ignore this is to clearly misunderstand the Scriptures.  You will understand the ultimate purposes and goals of God only if you understand the prophetic messages His Prophets have recorded for our study.

One of the key proofs that Holy Scriptures are the product of God is His prophetic utterance in Holy Scriptures.

10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure….  Isaiah 46:10 (KJV)

Only God knows the end from the beginning.  Thus I am including a series of articles by By Cris D. Putnam entitled Why Eschatology Matters.  These four articles are in a .PDF file which can be downloaded.

While we will never know the exact day or hour of Jesus return he said that we could know the times and the seasons.

But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. 2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 1 Thess 5:1-2 (KJV)

1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 2 Thess 2:1-3 (KJV)

Paul said that two things must take place prior to the Day of Christ (Lord), 1) the great apostacy, and 2) the revealing of the Anti-Christ (the man of sin – lawlessness).  Paul states that the day of the Lord (Christ)  will not come “because that day shall not come, except (until) there come a “falling away” (the great apostacy) and “the man of sin be revealed (Anti-Christ).  Christians will know when the Anti-Christ is revealed that the day of the Lord is near.

By the way see the little phrase in 2Thes. 2:1 “…by the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him.  The phrase “our gathering together unto him” conveys almost the exact same thought as 1 Thes. 4:17 “ …  caught up together” 1 Thess 4:17 (KJV)

Forgive me if I assume too much of you.  Since I have studied prophecy from the Holy Scriptures for 50 years, I may be assuming that you already know more than you do.  Just let me know of your questions.  I can answer many of them.

God bless your today!
