01 Evangelism?

Evangelism?

What is it and Why should I be involved in it?

The word itself simply means “to proclaim the Good News of free salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord!”  It does not require a person to be successful.   To evangelize is just to present the Good News that Jesus Christ has paid for all sin and now eternal life is free to anyone who will believe the message “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved!” Acts 16:31

Campus Crusades definition is good.   They state it this way:  “Success in evangelism is taking the initiative to tell others about Jesus, in the power of the Holy Spirit, and leaving the results up to God.”

I like to use the same idea but instead of “leaving” the results to God, I like to say “expecting the results from God.”  God has promised results when we share the Good News.   It may be the rejection of the message of Jesus Christ, but that is a result.  Unbelievers will be condemned by the message, but those who believe will be saved and receive eternal life through this shared Good News.  According to the Apostle Paul some sow, others water, but ultimately God gives the increase.

“I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. 7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. 8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.  1 Cor 3:6-8 (KJV)

Obviously, we are to persuade men regarding the Good News, but ultimately it is God that brings about the increase.   Many people are disappointed and discouraged because they do not have converts on all occasions.  They may even feel like failures.

This shows a lack of faith in God.  The Bible clearly urges us to walk by faith.  We do not know when or if someone who takes a tract from us will be saved or not.  However, we know that many people throughout history have been saved by Gospel tracts.  Since God commanded us to evangelize, we are successful when we do just what He said, Preach (present, proclaim) the Gospel!  This is what every Christian is called to do by various means.  Some are shy, but they can get the Good News to others by leaving tracts in strategic places or directly to people.

A friend and I go out two times a week and talk with people and distribute well-written Gospel tracts.  We know that God will bless this because He has promised to do so.  Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would convict all the people in the World of sin, righteousness, and Judgment.

7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.  John 16:7-11 (KJV)

This is a key verse on evangelism because it tells us what subject areas God the Holy Spirit works on the unbeliever.  Some subject areas will not bring the conviction of God, the Holy Spirit.  The three that Jesus promised were 1)  sin which He defines a unbelief, 2) righteousness, which is proved by Jesus resurrection,  and 3) judgment, because Satan and all that follow him will be condemned.   We should use verses that show that all are sinners both by birth (nature) and by practice.  We should also emphasize the meaning of Jesus resurrection.  It meant that He paid for all sin.  Otherwise he would have remained in the grave.

And we need to emphasize the destiny of all who reject Jesus Christ and remain in the family of Satan.

Jesus sent out his disciples two by two.  This is an excellent model to follow.

9 Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. 10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.  Eccl 4:9-10 (KJV)

We have posted articles that give potential ways to use gospel tracts.   There is practically unlimited ways of tract distribution.   Later we will give you a list of places from which you can secure good tracts.

Jesus word to you is “Go Preach!”

37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; 3 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest. Matt 9:37-38 (KJV)

Will you be a labourer in His harvest of souls?  All you need is your willingness.
