10 The Eternal Promise

The Eternal Promise

There is a promise in God’s Word that still applies today.   It is a promise that God gave many years ago. Below is that promise.

Genesis 12:3 (KJV)
Ge 3  And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

This promise was given to Abraham by God and it was given before the Mosaic Covenant or the New Covenant.   It applies to those who bless Israel.  There is now an organization called The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.  Their mission is to support and help hurting Jews throughout the world especially those who are persecuted and in need.

I believe that this is a worthy mission and a good place to give.   God is now in the process of restoring the nation of Israel.   God promised that He would restore the Jewish people to the land that he gave them.  The land He gave them was given as an eternal possession, but they were temporarily expelled because of their sins.   They had been expelled previously in the Babylonian Captivity 606 B.C., 597 B.C., and finally 586 B.C. for 70 years and were restored in 539 B.C.

Then in 70 A.D. Jerusalem and the Temple was destroyed and the Jewish people were expelled.  In 1948 They again returned to their land and became a nation.  Since that time they have been fighting to retain their nation.   They have been attacked by the Arab nations that surround them.

Hal Lindsey wrote a book named The Everlasting Hatred and the Roots of Jihad.   In this book he explains why the Arabs have all this hatred toward the Jewish people.    Most of the nations of the world are anti-semitic.  At a coming day all of the nations of the world are going to attack Israel.

I believe that it is good for true Christians to contribute toward this ministry even though most of the Jewish people have not accepted Jesus as their Messiah.  The promise to Abraham was not given on the basis of the goodness of the Jewish people.  It was simply a gracious promise of God.

While I am generally against giving in order to get something from God, in this case I believe that it is legitimate.   God knows how to bless people without doing them harm.  The same is true of good parents.  Good parents do not want to give their children anything that would be harmful to them.  God does not give us certain things because He loves us an knows what is best for us.

There is a coming day when the Jewish people are attacked 2/3rds of them are going to be killed and 1/3 of them are going to be saved.   This is spoken in the book of Zechariah.

Zechariah 12:2-3 (KJV)
Zec 2  Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.
3  And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.

Zechariah 12:9 (KJV)
Zec 9  And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

Zechariah 13:8-9 (KJV)
Zec 8  And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.
9  And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.

Zechariah 12, 13,  and 14 have considerable prophecy about the rescue of the Jewish people and the seconding coming of Jesus Christ.

Zechariah 14:1-4 (KJV)
Zec 1  Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.
2  For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
3  Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.

And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.

Zechariah 14:16 (KJV)
Zec 16  And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.

Zechariah 14:4 is a reference to Jesus Christ’s return just as the Angels stated in the book of Acts.

Acts 1:11 (KJV)
Ac 11  Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

We are indeed living in what is called “the End-times” and we do not know the exact time of Jesus Christ’s return but we know that many events seem to point in that direction.
